Weaving School

At your kitchen table, in your favourite, cosy armchair or out in your ‘she-shed’ join me for my weekly weaving school.

Have you been wanting to try your hand at weaving or simply learn a new craft for a while now?

Maybe you have been wanting to carve out time just for you, away from the daily hubbub and dedicate part of your day/week to develop your skills, express your creativity and transform your life.

If this is you, I invite you come sit with me and other like minded women joining together to learn and connect through their own beautiful and inherent creativity.

Since very early on…

women have performed ancient feminine arts to reconnect us with our own indigenous wisdom, settle in to our innate knowing and intuition, and increase our sense of well being and what is worthy of our attention. Women’s power is so much around where we focus our energy and hold a vision of our desires.  The practise of sitting in circle creating through arts such as weaving were also a place where dreams were woven…dream circles …..and magic manifested.

My work over the last few years has involved encouraging this beautiful practice into modern day by inviting women to carve out time for themselves, gather in my home and create space for them to weave their magic around my kitchen table.

I have enjoyed it so much and now in these changing times I want to continue this work just in an adapted way.

So I invite you to come sit with me and weave, virtually gathering round our kitchen tables and in our creative spaces,  through the wonderful power of modern technology.

So we can express and develop our creativity and help us receive the support we need through the beauty and benefits of ‘me time’, mindfulness and joy of creating a beautiful piece of art.

Imagine having ‘me-time’ scheduled and set aside over 5 weeks allowing yourself time to connect and feel supported whilst you immerse yourself in your creativity, learning and practicing a new craft, or build on your existing skills, and also weave your dreams into the fabric of your work to create a wonderful and powerful reminder in the guise of a beautiful wall hanging of what you have achieved and given to yourself during this time.

What people are saying.

“I wanted to write and thank you Suzanne for your online weaving school magic!

I love getting creative and learning new things and when I saw your woven wall hangings, I fell in love and wanted to make some for my home.I purchased the smaller weave set from you (now I want to by your larger kit).

After the initial excitement of it arriving, I soon realised I didn’t have a clue where to start and got lost and confused on YouTube. Then I joined The Nest Facebook Group and next your online weaving school.

As a result  I have now progressed from complete novice, to almost finishing my first piece. I am so much more knowledgeable and confident to get going with some more, so I can fill my home with beautiful textured artwork.

Life is pretty busy at the moment and this has given me some time out and space to breathe and learn a little something new. The boys have enjoyed learning and watching my weaving loom come to life!

Thank you for all your lovely support and for teaching me how to weave

Good luck with your new online weaving school adventures, such an exciting and inspiring community you’ve created.”

From Novice to Weaver in 5 weeks …..students gallery >

During this unsettled and uncertain time I found that I was feeling anxious. I also had time on my hands due to the tea room being closed. I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn a new skill . I enrolled at the Nest & Burrow Weaving School online weaving course. The calmness it has brought my mind is priceless . I can not thank Nest & Burrow enough. It’s fun, creative & I have fulfilled my task of learning a new skill. Suzanne Gattrell Hodshon is always on hand for support and advice and her teaching skills are on point, plus she’s lovely .I highly recommend this wonderful independent business and course. I’ve just finished weaving and now have to learn how to get it off the loom to be able to hang it and do another one.

Weaving School - FAQ

Q. I am a beginner - is this suitable for me?

A. Yes, just like in my home based workshops I will be teaching the foundations of weaving to start with and once you are comfortable with that I will be moving on to more advanced techniques over the course.

Q. What if I dont have a loom or any supplies?

A. I have large beechwood looms and weaving yarn kits available to purchase here .

Q. I have young children/work on weekdays, can I watch the sessions and learn in my own time?

A. Absolutely, I already have several ladies doing just this. After all a big part of joining the course is about carving out 'me time'. The program allows you to learn to weave when it suits you so when you can slow down, relax into it, pause or rewind the video if you want, play music etc and maybe have a glass of wine or a hot chocolate! The women that are already enrolled love that they have time between sessions to re-play and re- do things or catch up on things if they want. Plus we have our own private Weaving School Facebook Group where you can share progress, seek support, trouble shoot and keep connected between sessions.  And if you have any specific questions, you can post them and they are answered during the next teaching session - that way your needs are equally met.

Q. How much personal attention will I get?

A. I am all about teaching hands on and this will be exactly the same on Zoom which is a great virtual application for teaching. There will be plenty of time within each session to address individual needs.

Q. What if I cant make a session?A. All sessions are recorded via zoom and will be forwarded to you after each workshop to watch back at your leisure.

Q. Can I split the cost?A. Yes I offer a payment plan - please email me for further details.
